In the 2nd half of 1996 up to the present, 6 barangays are covered by CERD wherein both men and women organizations were formed. Seven (7) fish sanctuary projects covering 414.7 hectares were established and mangrove reforestation undertaken with a total of 136 hectares. Community Based Forest Management Agreement (CBFMA) is awarded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to People’s Organization (PO) partners of CERD covering 936 hectares.
NAMAHIN (Nagkakaisang Mangingisda ng Hinatuan), the fisherfolk federation was formed with 14 chapter organizations. The municipal federation coordinated activities at the municipal level resulting to the approval of a Municipal Comprehensive Fisheries Ordinance; monitoring of PO/chapters’ plan; and promotion of the PO’s initiatives.
Complimenting the resource management projects are the livelihood activities undertaken at the level of the organizational, household or individual member. The organizations’ projects are usually self-help in nature while credit and marketing assistances provided for household projects particularly for seaweed farming.
